The Significance of Positive EIA Results for HCV Antibody among Patients Who Were Received Transfusion and/or Intravenous Immunoglobulin

Abstract
The clinical studies were performed on 33 patients who had been received transfusion and/or IVIG in NICU of Il Sin Christian Hospital with diagnosis of prematurity, very low birth weight, IRDS, sepsis, NEC to evaluate the significance of positive
HCV
result after transfusion and/or IVIG from April, 1 to December, 31, 1993. The results were as follows:
1) 2 of 33 patients, who had been received only transfusion, were positive HCV EIA at 3rd week and all were negative results within 3 months after transfusion.
2) 31 patients who had been received transfusion and IVIG were also positive HCV EIA results at 3 rd week but 14(50%) of 28 patients except 3 patients who were died due to sepsis were negative EIA results for HCV antibody within 6 months after
transfusion and among 14 patients with persistent HCV EIA positive after 6 months, 8 cases did not receive follow-up test and 5 of the remainder(6 cases) were negative PCR.
3) LFT was also examined every month every month after transfusion and/or IVIG medication so ALT activity was increased (range 48-153IU/1, normal ¡´401IU/1¡µin 6 of 33 patients(18%) but no fluctuating or plateau pattern on lst month and all were
normal
Alt activity on next month.
